Description
Incredibly rare, historically significant piece of British maritime history and premium ceramic art. This authentic Wedgwood Nautilus pattern shell plate features a custom-commissioned yachting crest made exclusively for the legendary British racing yawl Jullanar.
Built in 1875 in Maldon, Essex, Jullanar is widely celebrated in naval history as a revolutionary "tonnage cheater" that fundamentally changed the trajectory of modern yacht architecture. Custom-crested dinnerware from luxury makers like Wedgwood was ordered exclusively by wealthy elites to furnish the main dining saloons of their private vessels.
Design Details: Molded into Wedgwood's iconic, highly sculptural scallop/nautilus shell shape, the plate features crisp radiating ridges and a hand-painted gold gilded rim. The right shoulder of the shell displays a beautiful multi-color transfer of three interlocking, rope-bordered circles highlighting the ship's racing flags and yacht club burgees. Directly beneath the emblems is a pink ribbon banner reading "JULLANAR".
Dimensions: approximately 8.5"L x 8.5"W x 1"H Mark: Impressed WEDGWOOD Provenance: Rubin Collection
